The true purpose of DEI initiatives.

Many people are strongly apposed to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. They claim that they result in people getting jobs that they are not qualified for.

That is simply and provably false.

The past

Hiring decisions were based on policies, either official or unofficial, the resulted in only certain people even being considered for a position. In many cases a person would only be considered if they had the following characteristics that were complexly unrelated to whether they were actually qualified for the position.

A person would often get a job just because they had those characteristics even though there were many other more qualified individuals who were rejected for no other reason than they did not have those characteristics. For example, there were many cases in which a far more qualified person was rejected for no other reason than they were female.

The future

The purpose of a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiative is to make certain that the most qualified individual gets the job. DEI initiatives are not about being woke. They are about generations of unqualified people getting jobs just because they match a specific list of narrow minded discriminatory characteristics that have nothing to do with the job they are applying for.
