Why Gender Support Plans are a Good Thing

Right Wing headlines like This School District Issuing “Gender Support Plans” For Students K-12 WITHOUT Parent’s Knowing demonstrate either a complete lack of understanding or a complete lack of concern for the safety of children. Some parents are extremely transphobic. In those cases telling the parents will only result in the child being abused if they are lucky or dying if the child is not lucky.

There are parents who will abuse their child if they are informed because of their transphobia. I very nearly did not survive my own childhood, in part because my parents are transphobic (See Do not try to force boys to be masculine. You will only break them.) for details.

My marriage was ruined because I got married before I realized that I am transgendered and my wife is transphobic.

I am sorry. But the survival of the children is far more important than parents rights. If telling the parents will only result in the children being abused and possibly end up emotionally scarred for life or even killing themselves then help the child without informing the parent. The future of the child is all important!

I wish someone had helped me when I was a child.
